When my late wife Muriel could no longer be cared for at home, she moved into the palliative care unit at the base. It consisted of a kitchen-lounge area and a patients’ room with en suite and a sofa bed for the carers.
A private entrance door only locked at night. This allowed my three daughters Wendy, Pam and Susan to care for Muriel 24 hours a day only needing a nurse for medical purposes. My daughter Susan Randal was holding her step-mother’s hand when she peacefully passed away.
Why with a modern hospital do we go backward?
