The Orange Cycle and Triathlon Club will kick-off its 2014-15 summer season on Sunday, with the club’s traditional breaking of the ice at Lake Canobolas.
Sunday’s season opener will be duathlon training - a run followed by a bike ride, and then another run in conclusion.
Ranging from the midgets - 400 metre run, 600m bike ride and another 200m run - through to the long course, which includes a 5km run, 20 km ride and 2.5 km run, there will be five duathlon distances to cater for all ages and abilities.
OCTC secretary Alison Dermody said the club would welcome new members and families who would like to try their hand at multi-sport events.
“We cater for a whole range of triathletes, from the novice to those who go to world championships, from the seven-year-old to the 77-year-old,” Dermody said, with the breaking of the ice the club’s traditional season opening.
“We enter en masse into the frigid waters of Lake Canobolas and dunk our whole bodies under.”
Registration for Sunday’s event is free and begins from 8am.
The midgets kick-off at 8.45am and longer distances to follow.
A barbecue will be held after the training events, while the breaking of the ice will begin at 11am for those brave enough to test the water.
