It will cater for rugby, soccer and hockey and, unlike the current training arrangements for students at the school, it will have goal posts.
“It’s very exciting to see all the development,” principal Len Elliott said.
The school purchased an adjacent block of about two hectares, demolished a property and began digging it all up last week.
The oval is part of a master plan of renovations and expansions planned at the school since it was bought by the Sydney Anglican Schools Corporation last year.
Mr Elliott said the financial backing made available to the school by the corporation meant it could go ahead with the construction of six classrooms and a library, and purchase technology such as iPads for the students.
The oval is expected to be in use by early 2015.
“[The students] are very excited,” Mr Elliott said.
“The kids wrote me a letter the other day asking if they could see the goals posts and if they could use it at lunch time.
“I wrote back and showed them a photo of the posts.”
Future rugby, soccer and hockey competitions could result in a very competitive contingent come through from the Anglican Grammar School now students have their own space to train on, Mr Elliott said.
