Kurt Douglas Edwards, 24, was due to appear before the magistrate, Terry Lucas, on Thursday but failed to show up and was sentenced in his absence.
He had a string of charges, which included possession of a knife in public, possession of stolen goods and driving unlicensed.
Police facts said, on May 13, officers were doing routine patrols when they saw Edwards driving a car, but when Edwards saw them, the car sped up to at least 75 km/h in a 50km/h zone.
Police officers found Edwards again, about 200 metres down Tynan Street with a teenager and asked him to stop and give his name.
Instead he became abusive, hurled his arms about and told them a fake name.
He was informed he was under arrest for driving an unregistered and uninsured car.
“Go chase that fella who ran from the vehicle down that way” he told officers.
Inside the car police found a pensioner’s card, a medicare card and a redicard belonging to different people.
They asked him about the ownership of the car, to which he said he had paid someone $100 for it, yet they could not find registration papers or a receipt.
Edwards had a previous criminal history and was handed three $500 fines and a $300 for possessing a knife in public on a separate occasion.
