Finalists for the 2014 awards have been announced after organisers have spent the past week counting more than 8800 votes to narrow the field to four finalists in 13 categories.
Like last year, more then 80 businesses accepted nominations from the public.
Awards chairman and Central NSW Business Enterprise Centre executive officer Bruce Buchanan credited the response to the move away from forms businesses had to fill out themselves, which was phased out last year.
“The awards moved to a popular vote format in 2013, which struck a real chord with the community,” he said.
For Hair by Jade’s Jade Gavin, the nomination for Best New Business was a surprise.
“I didn’t really know much about it until now, I’m just really lucky with the support I’ve gained from the community,” she said.
“It’s great for getting your name out there.”
Molong Newsagency owner Perry Trethowan said his Best Ongoing Business nomination was his first since the awards’ early years.
“The public voting is better because if it was up to me, I wouldn’t nominate because I don’t like to blow my chest out,” he said.
“It’s rewarding for our efforts and we appreciate the fact that our customers nominated us.”
Winners will be announced at a gala dinner in Molong on Friday, November 7.
Awards will also be presented for employee of the year, apprentice-trainee of the year and the coveted Best Business in Cabonne, which will come with a $3000 television advertising package.
Tickets for the awards dinner are on sale for $50 and can be purchased online at business.cabonnecountry.com or by calling 6362 0448.
