Orange City Council and Cabonne Council invited schools in the region to host the safe cycling sessions as part of bike week activities this year.
Senior constable Leon Lincoln, in conjunction with Bicycle NSW, developed a practical program to educate young cyclists on cycling skills, rules and basic maintenance.
Orange and Cabonne road safety officer Andrea Hamilton-Vaughan said the program had proved effective.
“The children are in a learning environment, the program incorporates practice, theory and safety,” she said.
“The added advantage of the program being delivered by NSW Police Cycling captures the attention of our young cyclists of the benefits of cycling safely.”
Senior constable Lincoln also presented his skills workshop to students at Orange Christian School.
Employees at Wangarang Industries have also signed on to brush up on their riding skills and safe cycling practices.
Several organisations in Orange also registered with council to arrange a Ride 2 Work event to promote it as a way to combine exercise with travelling to work.
