The bowling alley has been in the National Rugby League tipping competition for Orange businesses since it first began in 2007, and this year the combined powers of Jason Belmonte and Jason Brown scored a total of 257 points over 26 rounds, inching out the Victoria Hotel and Frame Effect, who both sat on 245.
Mr Belmonte and Mr Brown, who are Wests Tigers and Parramatta Eels fans respectively, are delighted with their successful tipping campaign.
“Jason is the main man. We talk footy all the time, but I know nothing about it. Jason is the real brains behind it all,” Mr Belmonte said.
“I’m terrible at it, so I don’t like it, but on the weeks that you pick the winners, it’s great.”
The winners received $1000 prizemoney, which Mr Brown said would be put back into the business.
“We’ve got some play rooms here that need doing up. I think the money will go towards renovating the party room and conference rooms,” he said.
And what does the duo put their success down to?
“I think our success comes down to Belmo’s photo on the tipping page in the paper!” Mr Brown laughed.
“We weren’t having much luck with Pinny, our old mascot, so I think [Belmonte’s] winning luck has rubbed off.”
