But it is a good start, says member for Orange Andrew Gee.
Mr Gee said the NSW government confirmed assistance for Orange-based manufacturing business Zylem Australia’s expansion and he mentioned assistance given to engineering network Renweld.
“I’m very happy that we are starting to see businesses emerging from the other side of the application process,” he said.
“Given that small business is the largest employer in NSW, the success of Zylem in obtaining tens of thousands of dollars in assistance to expand is very encouraging. I would urge other small businesses in the area to take a leaf out of Zylem’s book.”
He said the assistance given to Renweld, would enable it to help Orange firms win more business and it demonstrates the diversity of the assistance on offer.
The funding given to Zylem has the potential to create between four and seven full-time equivalent jobs and Mr Gee said he was confident more businesses would take advantage of the pool of money that could be made available to them.
“The challenge we are facing is enormous, but there is no doubt we are going to get through this,” he said.
“Anyone who suggests otherwise doesn’t know Orange or its people.”
There was no specific funding made available in the June state budget and the “multi-million dollar” pool of money is coming from the Regional Industries Investment Fund.
Zylem Australia director and owner Richard Hoskin said that the support would provide up to two additional administration positions as well manufacturing and installation roles within the company.
“We are extremely grateful to the NSW government for this assistance which will make a big difference and allow us to further expand operations,” Mr Hoskin said
