It wasn’t easy for the back-rower to make the squad.
During May, McCalman suffered a groin strain which left him out of the Australian team for the opening Rugby Championship clashes with New Zealand and South Africa.
But McCalman recovered from his injuries just in time to be selected in the green and gold’s line-up against the Pumas last weekend, with the 26-year-old booking a ticket in the upcoming tour thanks to his efforts against Argentina.
He and the Wallabies will travel to South Africa on Friday for a September 27 game against the Springboks at Cape York.
After they play the Springboks, the Wallabies cross the South Atlantic for their game in Mendoza against the Pumas.
Even though the Australians are coming off back-to-back wins against both South Africa and Argentina, coach Ewen McKenzie says the games will be extremely challenging even with the experience he has named in the squad.
“The Springboks and Argentina always lift to another level when they are playing at home and so we are under no illusion as to the challenges which are ahead,” McKenzie said.
