Caitlyn White, Kaitlin Borkowski and Charlie Southwell , also known as Team Stevie, won the regional finals at Charles Sturt University earlier in the term and were thrilled to go on to come third at the state finals at the University of NSW.
Charlie said the team was extremely surprised about winning the regional competition, and to do so well in the state championships was awesome.
“We had to program our robot Stevie to dance in sync with the girls, it was hard enough on the first day, but when we found out we were in the top seven finalists we freaked out!” he said.
The students have been busy studying robotics over the last two years with the help of their science teacher Sharon Cloete.
Mullion Creek Public School principal Gay Stone said the school, with the assistance of P&C support, funded the purchase of the robotics kits.
“We find the robotics activities make challenging and problem solving activities for the children,” she said.
Charlie said the team was happy with their result of third best in the state, and being the only team who didn’t have to restart their dance.
“I don’t think Mrs Stone is going to be nice enough to let us go to Brisbane for nationals, but it feels pretty cool though to be the third best in the state so I’m happy with third,” he said.
