The original musical Ghost of a Chance, written and directed by teacher Romko Hordynsky, is set within the walls of a grand castle in modern-day England. It follows the story of ghosts James Robert Featherby and Archibald Winchester who, with the help of young girl Pamela Winchester, must thwart the evil mastermind Crondike in his quest for world domination.
Year 5 student Jonty King-Christopher will strut his stuff on stage in the role of Archibald Winchester, “a funny man that likes to tease Featherby and Pamela about their love”.
It is Jonty’s first time performing in a musical and he has enjoyed it so much he is already thinking about auditioning next year.
“I just thought I’d give it a go; I’ve never done a play before,” Jonty said.
“It’s a lot of fun and it’s really good to see everyone getting into the scenes.”
A cast of 86 will perform the musical at 7.30pm tomorrow at Orange Civic Theatre, and Mr Hordynsky said he was looking forward to seeing the finished product.
Mr Hordynsky is no stranger to the theatre; for the past 25 years he has written an original musical for the preparatory school’s annual performance.
“I believe it’s a great opportunity for them to perform on stage, but the educational qualities they get are also important,” he said. “It develops their confidence when they have to speak in front of an audience.
“There’s a lot of fun in it as well. It’s something the Year 5 and 6 students look forward to throughout the school year.”
