Owner Kay Norton-Knight said Material World had been operating in Orange as a fabric retailer for nearly 30 years.
“About five years ago we started a decorating service as we realised clients were time poor and were looking for expertise to help them choose appropriate window coverings,” she said.
“The feedback we are getting from our clients is that they like to be able to look at different options with an experienced decorator who can work within their budget.
“The new showroom allows clients to check out new samples and discuss ideas with the decorators in comfortable surroundings.”
The company also makes and installs blinds and shutters.
The showroom manager is Rachael Browne working with decorators Kylie Cummins and Holly Fitzsimon.
LATE last year the Jeff Hort Engineering board of directors decided to change the company’s name, reasoning Hort Enterprises would better reflect the company’s place in the market according to general manager Craig Hort.
“Now in its 19th year of operation the company was well passed being run by one Hort family member and for the past four years was actively being directed and run by the six family members,” Mr Hort said.
“The Jeff Hort Engineering brand no longer represented the diversity of the company and we were looking for a name that still represented the family and gave tribute to the founding owners Jeff and Rae Hort, while being able to take the company through its next 10-year business plan.”
Mr Hort said the company now carried out major project works in a range of different areas of engineering, design, manufacture, installation and commissioning.
“We now have workshops in Orange, West Wyalong, Dubbo, Mudgee and Wollongong [JME Engineering],” Mr Hort said.

ORANGE businesswoman and mother Skye Weber is busy creating and promoting her business Scented Skyes.
Ms Weber showcased her aromatherapy and cosmetic product range at the Orange Senior Citizen’s Centre last Saturday and said the night was a great success.
Ms Weber said she was excited to share her products with the community and her passion to create natural and organic alternatives to chemical based aromatherapy, body and baby products .
Ms Weber makes her soy candles from recycled products by using teacups, jars and milkshake glasses that she gathers from second hand stores in Orange and Bathurst.
“I want to produce my products in a way that gives back to the community,” she said.
The Scented Skyes range includes bath salts and oils, candles, moisturisers and products aimed at the needs of mothers and babies.
After having her first child, Ms Weber said she was shocked at the some of the ingredients in the baby bath wash she was using and decided to create alternative products, which turned out to be the beginning of her career.
Ms Weber is completing a course in small business management and aims to further develop her brand by studying organic skin care formulation.
“I want to begin marketing to retail in the next year in order to make a name for myself.”
Ms Weber will be selling her Scented Skyes products at East Orange Village Markets on Sunday, October 19.
