Orange open day organiser Craig Wright is inviting people of all ages to come and enjoy a family-friendly day, where they can view the vehicles and have a free barbecue lunch.

“There will be a jumping castle, face painting and fun activities for the kids where they can put out a fake fire with a sack,” he said.

This year’s open day will include a static display, fire truck demonstration and fire hose demonstration, along with the display of a 1930 Dennis pumper, which both the kids and the motor enthusiasts will enjoy.

The RFS open day is a chance to meet the volunteers who protect the community and discuss concerns about bushfire safety.

Mr Wright said the open day would also act as a good chance for people interested in joining the RFS to get more information.

“Our youngest member is my stepson, who is 14 years old, and our oldest member would be around 70 years old. We open our doors to juniors and encourage their parents to get involved as well.”

About 300 fire stations across NSW will host open days; offering members of the  public a chance to speak with members of the RFS along with other emergency services.

“NSW Fire and Rescue will be here on the day, along with NSW Police and the Ambulance Service of NSW,” Mr Wright said.

In Orange, the open day will take place from 9:30am to 2pm at the North West Station on the Mitchell Highway near  the Northern Distributor Road.

“Come along and join in the fun and make sure to bring the kids,” Mr Wright said.
