Wingman Barton Young bagged five tries in the Lions’ 41-22 major semi-final victory over Dubbo Roos last Saturday, and with Orange City to tackle the winner of Saturday’s Orange Emus and Dubbo preliminary final at Pride Park, expect the Lions’ newest try-scoring sensation to be on hand assessing his next victim.
“I think I’ll head up there and watch Emus and Roos,” Young said, on fire in last week’s mauling of Roos.
“There was one try last week where I just had to run 10 metres and fall over the line. I think I owe Chris Senior one for that one.
“I think it was just being in the right place at the right time.
“It’d be great to go back-to-back. I definitely think we’re playing some good footy at the moment.”
Saturday’s action at Pride Park is a massive day for the Orange City club, with wins in third grade and first grade ensuring next weekend’s grand final day in Dubbo is a historic one for the Lions.
“That’s the goal,” Young said, with third grade and first grade one win away from joining second grade and colts on grand final day.
“We didn’t have thirds last year so to have all four this year would be great. A couple of local derbies this weekend too, which will make it fun.”
Orange City will meet the winner of the Bathurst Bulldogs and Parkes in the Blowes Clothing Cup colts decider.
If Parkes qualify, it’ll cap a remarkable rise for the baby Boars, a side that had to win its final round game against Narromine just to qualify for the finals, and have since knocked off Mudgee and Dubbo Roos in consecutive weeks to book a spot in the preliminary final.
Saturday’s second grade clash begins at 1.30pm.
Colts kick-off at 10.50am at Pride Park.
