At around 10am two girls, aged four and seven, were playing in their yard when a bright green utility stopped outside the home.
The men allegedly spoke with the girls, who became frightened and ran inside and told a family member.
Canobolas Local Area Command police are investigating the incident and are hoping to speak to the two men who have been described as being of African appearance.
According to the girls the men spoke with strong accents.
Acting Inspector Brenden Turner said now was a good time for parents and carers to highlight the need for children to be cautious.
“Children should be reminded not to get into someone’s car if they don’t know them, even if the person says mum and dad said it was okay,” Mr Turner said.
“They should also be reminded that they shouldn’t go places by themselves, they should go in pairs.”
Acting Inspector Turner said police take all reported threats seriously.
“We investigate all of them and try to get to the bottom of what’s occurred,” he said.
