The association ran workshops at the Orange Home and Community Care Centre yesterday to inform over-50s about their options as they age, including an introduction to home and community care and seniors support services, a safety and self-defence workshop and a cake decorating master class.
The workshops were held to launch the living well navigator, a website designed to help seniors access information on transport options, independent travel, work and volunteering, health and wellbeing, and independent and supported living.
Participants also met with NRMA director Graham Blight to discuss their needs.
“A lot of people in their 60s and 70s are computer literate and making the transition,” Mr Blight said.
“Their families are encouraging them to do it and there’s computer courses for seniors - it’s all about being socially aware and knowing where to get the services they need.”
Kerrell Moor, who attended the workshops, welcomed an online information source.
“It’s immediately available and it’s something I will do,” she said.
“I know people in their 80s who can’t get out and about and use it [for that reason].”
