THE death of Orange Show Society stalwart Betty Naylor just two weeks after receiving a state award for her services to the show, has saddened the community.
Mrs Naylor was 83.
Her son Peter, who is the Orange Show Society president, said his mother passed away peacefully at Orange hospital, surrounded by her family, on Saturday evening.
“We have been really touched by the huge number of emails that have been coming in from everywhere, including the Showman’s Guild, from people expressing their sympathy,” he said.
“We were extremely lucky to have had such a wonderful mother for so long.”
Orange mayor John Davis extended his sympathy to the Naylor family on behalf of Orange City Council.
“She will be sadly missed at the show where she has been such an important part of all the operations for so long,” he said.
“Orange City Council and the wider community owe a great deal to Betty and her family for their enormous contribution over the years to keep the show running the way it has,” he said.
Mrs Naylor’s funeral will be held at the Five-Ways Uniting Church, Summer Street, on Thursday, August 28 at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Medical Oncology, Central West Cancer Services.
