The dance program opened with the babies aged five and under, with 10 dance groups from four studios showing off their skills.
Summer Furner, 5, and Abe Hutchings, 4, were among the children performing throughout the afternoon.
Appearing with 13 other children in circus-themed routine to The Wiggles’ It’s a Wiggly Circus, Summer and Abe said they enjoyed dancing together.
Summer said she liked cartwheels and handstands in particular.
“Because we go on our hands,” she said.
Abe, who started dancing to follow in his sister’s footsteps, said the most valuable piece of dancing advice he received was to smile.
Central West Performing Arts teacher Marie Cubitt said the experience was valuable for growing confidence.
“And it’s important they have fun,” she said.
The dancers performed to a range of music from The Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy to Shake My Sillies Out.
They drew the crowd’s adoration from the first curtain and were praised by the adjudicator for their sense of rhythm and use of props.
The dance program will continue until September 7.
Sections will run at the Orange Civic Theatre, except for the school group sections, which will be held at the Orange Function Centre.
