Hawks trumped High A 43-35, fending off a late-season charge from fifth placed CYMS Gladiators and guaranteeing the two blues a place in the top four.
The game acted as a precursor to this weekend’s minor semi-final, where the two sides will meet once more, and injured Hawks star Amanda Hurford said the win had given her side a welcome confidence boost.
“I stressed to the girls that it was a must-win game and they went out with plenty of intensity, and maintained it throughout,” Hurford said.
“It was close at quarter-time, but we got out to a bit of a lead after that and maintained it until the end.
“It’s massive for us leading into this weekend. It will be tough to get over High A again. They’ll be going back to the drawing board, and obviously we have things to work on as well, but hopefully we can take the same intensity into Saturday and grab another win.”
