Mrs Ryan told the audience that most eisteddfods didn’t host such a section, which she said was unfortunate considering the word eisteddfod had its roots in the Welsh language.
For the open Welsh choral section, which included the Orange Male Voice Choir and the Orange Regional Conservatorium Symphonic Choir, Mrs Ryan enlisted the assistance of a Welsh language expert Michael Dicker who advised Mrs Ryan on the correct pronunciation of the words.
She awarded first place to Orange Regional Conservatorium Choir, with the Orange Male Voice Choir coming in second.
“Michael has been here at hand with me and he tells me the Orange Regional Conservatorium’s pronunciation of the Welsh words was very good,” she said.
Mrs Ryan said only one point separated both the choirs and she also complimented the conservatorium choir on performing its two-piece a cappella.
The eisteddfod hosted string sections yesterday and today embarks on the brass solo sections.
