WITH minor premierships in tow, Orange City’s under 15 and 13 sides will look to secure a spot in their respective grand finals on Saturday, when the Central West Junior Rugby Union finals begin in Mudgee.

The Lion cubs travel to Jubilee Oval, affectionately known as ‘The Burrow’ to the Wombats’ faithful, for their major semi-finals against Mudgee and Narromine respectively.

Orange City Junior Rugby Club president Tony Dalton said both games are set to be blockbuster clashes.

“It’s first versus second in both major semi-finals,” he explained.

“The last time the teams played each other, in both grades, they were hotly contested matches. They should be good, hard games of rugby.

“They’ll definitely be heading to Mudgee to put their best foot forward, it’s just all about who shows up on the day.”

A win tomorrow would give both sides a week off and direct passage to the grand finals, in Narromine on August 30.

“Both sides finished first, so they both have two bites at the cherry,” Dalton said.

“Obviously both sides are going to Narromine to win though and they both have a good chance.”

The Lions’ undefeated under 13s head into the clash firm favourites having beaten Narromine at Cale Oval three weeks ago, while Dalton said the under 15s will happily accept the underdog tag, despite their minor title.

“Mudgee have a massive home ground advantage in the 15s, a two-hour bus ride is a long way,” Dalton said.

“But our guys will do their best, they’re a great side. The 13s will definitely be quietly confident. With Narromine travelling as well, the trip should be a good leveller.”

The under 13s kick-off at 10am, with the 15s starting at 12pm.
