Duntryleague cart shed approved but a shadow of original design

A RESIDENT has welcomed the reduction in height of a golf cart shed at Duntryleague Golf Club that had threatened to overshadow her property.

The Central Western Daily reported earlier Orange City Council had deferred a decision on the shed  a second time pending further negotiations with the developer.

Councillors debated a deferral but ultimately approved the development, reducing the height by 1.5 metres.

Rowan Street resident Marcia Thorp, who put her case to councillors last week, said she was happy with the result.

“I was satisfied that I had been heard - that’s all you can expect I think,” she said.

“It will probably still overshadow my garden, but it will be less"

“[The result’s] better than the height it was going to be.”

Mrs Thorp raised concerns about losing the winter sun once the shed was put in place - the original proposal included three metres of fill at the site’s lowest point, which is already on site, and a shed height of 3.2 metres.

The 1.5-metre height reduction condition will require the golf club to either reduce the fill or the height of the shed.

“It will probably still overshadow my garden, but it will be less,” Mrs Thorp said.

The golf club will be able to seek modifications to the conditions if it chooses.

Duntryleague general manager Matthew Furze said the club wanted to work with the neighbours for a positive result and would abide by the decision.

“We need to look at the conditions of consent and whether we can still go ahead with it,” he said.
