Following a successful application for a $15,000 grant from Orange City Council’s sport facility partnership program, designed to assist not-for-profit sporting organisations develop community sporting facilities, the two clubs united to collect the shortfall via raffles and other fund-raising activities.
The electronic scoreboard will be owned by the Orange Aquatic Centre and be used for swimming and community events such as race meets.
According to City of Orange Swim Club president Fiona Tyrie both clubs are “very excited about working together on the scoreboard project and the interaction to date has been extremely positive”.
“This is very encouraging for our clubs for future collaboration on projects and any issues that may have existed in the past should stay in the past, and I believe they will,” she said.
Ms Tyrie said the portable scoreboard will only add to the amazing aquatic facility Orange is lucky to have, and will put Orange in good stead to host larger swim meets in the future.
“While our swimming carnivals are already of an extremely high calibre thanks to the Orange Aquatic Centre management and staff, having an on-site state-of-the-art scoreboard will lift the professionalism of our meets to another level,” said Ms Tyrie.
“We are thrilled to be working closing with Jets to benefit the community and to achieve our joint goals of promoting swimming as a wonderful sport and getting kids swimming safely in the pool.”
