At 1.25am, unknown perpetrators gained entry into a Stabback Street home in Millthorpe while the occupants were asleep.
Canobolas Local Area Command Inspector Gerard Powell said they took a wallet and a set of keys to an Audi R8.
“The occupants were woken up by the sound of the car starting and one of them jumped onto the bonnet, then fell off the car and was injured,” he said.
The occupant was taken to Orange hospital for treatment.
Inspector Powell said the police dog squad encountered the stolen vehicle on the Mitchell Highway, east of Orange, and gave chase before an Orange police vehicle came across the car in Summer Street, near Nathan Street, when it swerved into the police vehicle’s path.
“The officer tried to take evasive action, but the stolen vehicle collided with the front driver’s side of the police vehicle,” he said.
The female officer was taken to hospital for an injury to her hand.
Inspector Powell said the car was discovered behind a block of units in Burrendong Way at 2pm on Saturday afternoon, along with another vehicle reported stolen in May.
He said both vehicles were seized for forensic testing and investigations were underway to find the perpetrators.
