They ensure the station continues to pump out a variety of programs 24 hours a day.
FM107.5 has a small and dedicated volunteer team that works quietly away in the background on computers to keep the wheels turning.
The team’s tasks are many and varied and something like working on a farm where there is always lots to do.
But it can be a rewarding experience for the volunteers when all the equipment and software comes together to create a program that goes to air at a specific date and time.
The station, though, always welcomes more assistance from community-minded people with computer knowledge.
The tasks are varied and interesting and can range from maintaining existing equipment or clicking a mouse button to load music for broadcast on the station’s broadcast software.
The station’s music library has thousands of songs on computer and they have to be maintained and edited for station use.
Control room broadcast hardware and other on-air monitoring equipment has to be maintained, including the studio panel and all equipment attached to it like CD players, microphones, telephone and record players.
Broadcast and production software is another area the technical people look after with the programming of automated software that co-ordinates the live-to-air shows, satellite and computer-generated music mixes.
People interested are welcome to have a look with no obligation.
More help is also needed on the administration side.
People with secretarial experience who can help out by taking minutes at meetings and writing letters would be welcomed by the station, run entirely by volunteers.
The work could be shared to lighten the load.
Some of the community radio volunteers want to develop the skills associated with radio production while others do it for enjoyment and to give something back to the community.
People who can help out should phone the station on 6361 8877 or email orangeradio@bigpond.com and someone will get back to them.
