Following their own outstanding results on the floor, bars, rings and beam at this month’s Country Championships and first State Trials, Connor Shields, Chloe Jaques, Bonnie McPhee, Emily Hennessy, Zareah Coughlan, Niamh McPhee, Laura Mascord and Brad Rossiter can’t get enough of gymnastics.
Competing at his first trampoline sports at the July 6 Country Championship, Shields finished third overall in single mini tramp, and silver in the tumbling before a tidy routine on trampoline saw Shields finish with gold in the level one.
Also competing in level one as the youngest competitor on show, Bonnie McPhee excelled in her first competition finishing sixth in single mini and fifth in both trampoline and tumbling.
Hennessy placed second in tumbling and third in both trampoline and mini tramp.
Coughlan placed third in tumbling, fourth in trampoline and fifth in mini tramp.
Niamh McPhee did a great job placing second in trampoline, second in single mini tramp with a highly impressive score of 87.8 out of 90 and first in tumbling.
Mascord competed in level two tumbling and placed second, while in double mini and trampoline she competed in level three and placed fourth and third respectively.
Rossiter competed in level six and placed first in trampoline and double mini. In tumbling Rossiter placed third.
Coach Shaye Moss said despite a rough start to the day with the team’s trampoline competitors encountering a new style of trampoline, the team worked hard to earn medals.
“That really threw them off their game,” she said of the trampoline.
“But they worked hard in their warm up times to get use to the trampoline and do some great performances and together their overall scores pushed Orange PCYC into third place in the overall trampoline sports competition.”
At the state trials last Sunday, McPhee placed fifth out of 29 competitors in tumbling and third in single mini tramp.
Coughlan placed sixth in single mini, and eighth in trampoline, while Chloe Jaques finished first in single mini, her standout jump on this apparatus being her straddle scoring 9.9 out of 10 from all three judges.
In level six Brad Rossiter gained the highest score on his first pass on all three apparatus and the second highest score on each of his second passes, resulting in him placing second in all.
