A Great Moscow Circus crew member ruptured a water main at the grounds while packing up after the show’s two week stay at the park at the end of June, resulting in the northern end of Jack Brabham copping a serious amount of water damage.

Both Orange and District Football Association and Orange District Cricket Association officials say the damage won’t hinder their chosen sports.

“They actually occupied a part of the field that wasn’t a soccer field. We had a five to 10 metre radius away from the soccer fields where the tents could be set up,” ODFA president Tony Mileto said.

“The only thing it’s impacted on is where people can walk, they have to take a bit of a longer way around now.

“But as far as the fields concerned, there’s no real issue.”

ODCA secretary Peter Jarick said their season was still four months away, and he had every confidence council would have the field that houses the ground’s synthetic pitch playable by the time the summer’s first ball was  bowled in October.

“We haven’t had a chance to look at it all yet,” he added.

Orange City Council says there’s no immediate or long-lasting affects to the ground in regards to sport.

“The damaged area is outside the football fields,” council’s sports and recreation committee chair Jason Hamling said.

“It’s right alongside the car parking area on the northern side rather than a cricket playing area . It would be more of a spectator area for junior cricket.” 

Council is waiting on the impacted area to dry out before reseeding the turf.
