The woman entered the Sale Street pharmacy at around 6pm and asked about a product in the store before using a small knife to demand staff give it to her.
The woman left the store a short time later without the item.
Canobolas Local Area Command Inspector Peter Atkins said the two employees were unharmed during the incident but were "distressed".
Inspector Atkins said police would like to speak to anyone who has information about the attempted robbery.
He said witnesses described the woman as being in her early 20s with black straight hair.
