Competing against teams from Orange High, Kinross Wolaroi, Canobolas Rural Technology High and Orange Anglican Grammar, James Sheahan qualified for Thursday night’s finals in all three divisions of the inter-school competition.
James Sheahan will clash with perennial heavyweights Orange High in the senior (open) division, and will take on Kinross in both the intermediate (under 16s) and junior (under 14s) finals.
“We have a whole lot of depth at the moment,” Kylie Jordan, James Sheahan’s sports coordinator and senior coach said.
“It’s massive to have all three teams in finals, all the girls performed fantastically and hopefully we can win the trophy again.”
James Sheahan will be heavy favourites for all three titles having gone through the group stages undefeated in each division.
In the junior division James Sheahan’s defence proved crucial as it scored decisive victories over all four opponents. Kinross was the next best with three wins and a loss.
Three big wins in the intermediate division and a nail-biting 26-25 victory over Orange High was enough to see James Sheahan qualify while Kinross progressed with three wins and one loss.
Unpredictably, Orange High just scraped through to the final in the senior division with a win, a draw and a 28-22 loss to James Sheahan, the latter comfortably winning over Orange Anglican (51-13) and scraping past Kinross (34-28) to progress undefeated.
The competition is named after Marianne Murphy, a former James Sheahan student who represented NSW and Australia in several different age groups.
All three finals will be played at Kinross Wolaroi School on Thursday with juniors (4pm), intermediates (5pm) and seniors (6pm) on court.
