NBN services are usually available via phone companies and internet providers within 12 months from the start of construction, however, given we are seeing serious construction across the electorate, services are becoming available much sooner. This latest announcement brings the number of towers in Calare to 17, which will service over 3100 premises.
Detailed maps showing the areas around Calare where construction has begun are available at www.nbnco.com.au/rollout/rollout-map . You can find out more information about the steps you need to take to make the switch to NBN by visiting www.nbnco.com.au/switch.
Last week in Parliament I caught up with some of the local recipients of the coveted national scholarship program, the Horizon Scholarship, which is run by the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation.
Charlie French and Sam Johnston from Forbes, and Molong resident Hannah Schulz have been awarded the scholarship. Charlie is studying a Bachelor of Agribusiness from the University of New England and Sam is studying a Bachelor of Agriculture Economics from the University of Sydney, while Hannah is completing a Bachelor of Veterinary Science/Veterinary Biology at Charles Sturt University.
The Horizon Scholarship supports undergraduates studying agriculture at university by providing a bursary of $5000 per university year, as well as professional development workshops and mentoring, annual industry work placements, and opportunities to attend industry events.
It’s a great initiative and I really encourage any young people who are studying an agriculture-related degree to look into it. I wish Charlie, Sam and Hannah all the best with their studies and future careers and hope it brings them back to our region.
All Australian states and territories have signed the new National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness, ensuring homelessness programs across Australia will continue for another year, after the former Labor government failed to make provisions for future funding.
The NPAH provides up to $115 million in Federal funding for homelessness initiatives delivered by the states and territories.
