Orange councillor and Services Committee chair Ron Gander said repairs were still underway at the site, which was flooded after a crew member of The Great Moscow Circus ruptured a 375mm water main while erecting one of the main circus tents.
The damage was not detected until the peg was removed when the tent was being pulled down on June 30.
Cr Gander said council staff were keeping an eye on the area at the northern end of Jack Brabham Park.
“The area was given a preliminary grading on the day after the circus moved out to eliminate the largest of the ruts,” he said.
“The area now has to dry out before more repairs can happen.”
Cr Gander said the area would be re-seeded and turf repaired for an estimated cost of $750.
“The affected patch is an open area at the northern end of the park and no sporting fields have been damaged,” he said.
“The area is used as a walkway between a parking area and junior fields.”
Cr Gander said council staff would install a bark-chip path next week as a temporary measure until repairs were completed so people would not have to walk through the mud.
He said the total cost to the circus was yet to be finalised, with the cost of electricity used to appear in the next meter reading and the cost of repairs to the water main yet to be calculated.
“As well as paying a fee to hire space to erect its tents, the circus paid a bond and this amount may cover the overall cost of repairs,” Cr Gander said.
“The council realises the circus made a major contribution to local charities during their visit to Orange and we’ll be working to keep any bill to a minimum.”
