THE neighbour of a proposed cart shed site at Duntryleague Golf Course has welcomed councillors’ decision to defer approval due to overshadowing concerns.

Golf club management has proposed a 165 square metre shed to house more golf carts, however the level of fill proposed would take the development to the height of a two-storey building in comparison to its neighbours.
Councillor Neil Jones noted dirt fill had been placed at the site without consent and questioned council staff on why the club had not been fined.
“It’s enormous - there must have been truckloads of fill,” he said.
Development services director David Waddell said the fill had been clearly acknowledged in the report and approval would retrospectively allow the fill.
Councillors agreed to defer the matter pending a site inspection to determine whether the level of fill was necessary.
Rowan Avenue resident Marcia Thorp welcomed the decision.
“The impact on me will be quite high because it will cut out my winter sun,” she said.
Orange City Council spokesman Allan Reeder said council imposed fines when businesses operated outside regulations, but also aimed to balance the needs of residents with those of businesses contributing to the economy.
“Where [unauthorised] earthworks may be approved in due course anyway, it wouldn’t make sense to take the extra step of issuing a fine, especially before that matter had been decided.”
