OUR SAY: Changes have only added to North Orange traffic misery

RESIDENTS and patrons of the North Orange shopping complex and Waratah Sports Club were hoping modifications to the traffic light arrangements at the Northern Distributor Road-Farrell Road-Telopea Way intersection would solve traffic issues plaguing the area since the shopping centre opened.

Several users of the intersection have contacted the Central Western Daily to express concerns over near misses, despite the changes completed just a month ago.

The latest confusion arises from a left-hand lane and green-light signal from Telopea Way into Farrell Road, which users are assuming is for the Northern Distributor Road intersection about 30 metres further along.

It is when traffic doesn’t turn left but tries to merge the problem arises.

STORY: CONFUSION AND CONGESTION, SO WHAT'S LEFT?

A drive to the area any Thursday afternoon, when traffic is at its peak, gives a snapshot of the confusion facing drivers.

Orange City Council says drivers need to familiarise themselves with the road rules to avoid confusion.

But people are still scratching their heads, with residents describing council’s approach to the intersection as ad hoc and about to get worse.

Lets hope the issue will be solved before the anticipated increase in traffic volume when the new McDonald’s Restaurant opens on the same troubled, congested intersection.
