Fighting in Brisbane in the XFC Australia 21 fight night, Quarmby won by submission over Queensland’s James Klingner.
“I finished the fight in 30 seconds in the first round,” Quarmby explained.
“We exchanged a few strikes and then I took him down.”
Klingner then went for Quarmby’s legs but the Orange fighter was able to get his opponent in a choke hold which forced the submission.
Quarmby was happy to win his second professional bout but was disappointed it was over so quickly.
“The only downfall is I miss the experience by winning in the first round,” Quarmby said.
“I’ve had six MMA fights and five have finished in the first round. I can’t complain.”
Klingner was expected to be a tough opponent having won his last three bouts in the first round.
The Queenslander has previously won an amateur XFC Australia welterweight title and Quarmby said his opponent was clearly upset to lose on Saturday.
The win was a special one for Quarmby as it was his first fight back since having surgery on his ankle to remove a piece of loose bone.
The MMA United fighter suffered the injury in training and it forced him to miss a fight.
Quarmby had surgery in February and said his ankle didn’t give him any trouble on Saturday.
“It felt good because it didn’t really get used,” he laughed.
An added challenge for Quarmby was he dropped to welterweight for the first time for Saturday’s fight.
He had previously fought in middleweight but found he was often up to 10kg lighter than his opponents when they eventually stepped into the ring.
This time he cut weight and made the 77.6kg weigh in.
The Orange fighter’s next XFC fight is scheduled for November but said he hopes to have a few more bouts before then.
He’s also planning on going to Brazil in September for specialised training.
Quarmby thanked the teams at Mobsport Boxing and High Impact for helping him prepare for Saturday’s bout.
