The first singing and dance auditions were held on Sunday, with 50 young people between the ages of eight and 25 competing for one of the 60 roles, with more auditions to come on Wednesday and Sunday.
There are 13 lead and supporting lead roles to be filled and co-director Rebecca Brown said she was surprised by the number of applications the company had received.
“There were a lot of new faces and names on Sunday,” Ms Brown said.
“We were quite blown away by the new talent we saw and by the development of talent.”
“We had a lot more boys in the older age group which was great to see.”
Seussical the Musical is based on children’s author Dr Seuss’s Horton Hears a Who, with scenes and characters from other books, including Cat In The Hat, Green Eggs And Ham and The Lorax.
Ms Brown said the company wanted to encourage more young people to get involved in community theatre.
“It’s an all-round learning experience,” Ms Brown said. “We’d like for them to learn as much about stagecraft as well as learning how to work with other people.”
