WHEN Sydney couple Greg and Belinda Priest heard snow was predicted for Orange on the weekend they made plans to get up early on Saturday morning.
“Our girls have been begging us to see snow,” Mrs Priest said.
“So we got up at 5am and drove straight here.”
Mr Priest said the family decided to turn their snow jaunt into a weekend away.
“So we booked ourselves in to one of the local motels to stay and dry ourselves out,” he said.
Their girls, Madison, 5, and Alysa, 2, had their dream of seeing snow fulfilled when the family pulled over on the slopes leading to the Pinnacle.
The girls jumped out eager to build their first snowman.
Although Orange residents were hoping to wake to a covering of snow on Saturday morning it did not eventuate, however, Lucknow received a light dusting and Oberon reported heavy falls.
The slopes of Mount Canobolas and the Pinnacle were blanketed in around five centimetres of snow.
An Orange police spokesman said he had concerns drivers in the area were not heeding police warnings to slow down because of the snow and ice on the roads.
He said some drivers appeared to be using the snow and ice to test our their skills in their fourwheel-drives.
“It just seems to be an invitation for them,” he said.
However, he said failing to slow down could lead to a serious car accident.
The road to the Pinnacle was closed on Saturday and Sunday, however, police continue to warn drivers to slow down.
The weather is expected to turn around for the next few days with sunny days following heavy frosts.
