Dooley’s winner shot Souths out to a 2-1 lead with 19 minute left on the clock and Servies couldn’t peg the difference back, capping another near-women’s PLH result for the blue and golds at the Orange Hockey Complex.
“It’s been the story of our year so far,” coach Mitch Kennewell said.
“We’ve played really good hockey but haven’t been able to come away with the points.”
Getting off to the best possible start, Souths’ star Michelle Somers bagged the game’s first goal inside the opening 10 minutes before Servies gun Kasey Byrne was able to equalise in the 26th minute.
Level pegging at halftime and then well into the second period, smart finishing from Dooley snatched Souths the crucial four points.
Kennewell said his side was at times guilty of “ball watching” a lively Souths opposition.
“They lead well and move around the field quickly and they can catch you out pretty quickly,” Kennewell said.
“We’ll touch on what we need to do at training this week.”
Both backs Mel Hope and Rachel Pengilly were strong for Servies, as was goalkeeper Erin Horan.
