THE dining hall at St Francis Aged Care may not look like the high streets of Paris and Milan, but it will certainly feel like them when residents hold a fashion show on Tuesday.
Fifteen staff and residents will brave the stage and model affordable items from the St Vincent de Paul Society store, and will be judged by a panel of three judges, with the best model winning a gift voucher.
More than 60 people are expected to attend the event, with residents from Wontama Village Nursing Home and Calare Aged Care also attending, and resident at St Francis and organiser of the event Allen Murphy said he wanted to give people in care something to look forward to.
“They’re sitting down there in the lounge room, watching TV and they’ve almost got square eyes,” Mr Murphy said. “It’s hard for them to get down the street and go to the shops, so we decided to bring the clothes to them.”
Truckloads of clothes from the opportunity shop have already been brought to St Francis for residents to buy on the day, and Mr Murphy’s wife has been trawling through the Vinnies shop.
Mr Murphy has been a member of the St Vincent de Paul Society for almost 70 years, and said he has organised similar events in Hay, Carcoar and Blayney throughout his lifetime.
“As soon as we said we’d be doing something like this , their faces just lit up,” Mr Murphy said. “We’ll see how this one goes, if it’s popular, we’ll organise another one for summer with summer fashions.”
