So far 113 people have put their hand up to be part of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea and firefighters Phil Pedley and Mark Bell want to encourage more. 

In a bid to raise as much money as they can, Orange  firefighters will host their biggest morning tea fundraiser to coincide with their station open day on Saturday. 

Senior Firefighter Pedley said he was happy to jump on board for the biggest morning tea and hoped hundreds of Orange residents came down to check-out the station.

“I know many people who have either suffered cancer or supported people who did,” he said. 

According to the Cancer Council staff $108, 024 was raised in 2013 and this year the stakes are higher with a goal of $110,715 to go towards cancer research and the cancer help line. Cancer council western region co-ordinator Emma Ryall said a small cup of tea can make a big difference to the lives of thousands of people across NSW who are touched by cancer each year.

“For the past 21 years people all over NSW have gathered in living rooms, community centres, schools and workplaces to celebrate Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, and help raise vital funds for cancer research, prevention and support services,” she said.

According to Cancer Council staff, last year’s funds went to research to prevent and treat cancer, patient transport funding, information booklets, pro bono legal fees and it funded the Cancer Council help line. 

The official day is on Thursday, May 22, but hosts can put on an event any time during May and June.

The Orange Fire Station is open from 10am to 2pm and the Cancer Council stall will have “baked goodies”, merchandise as well as information for cancer sufferers, their carers as well as important health information.
