The Orange PCYC is hosting the WJL play-offs on Saturday and Sunday, with the best junior basketballers from Lithgow, Gilgandra, West Wyalong, Young, Bathurst, Narrandera, Leeton, Dubbo and Griffith set to compete across four age divisions, from under 12s to under 18s.

All of Orange’s entered teams qualified, in the under 14s (boys and girls), under 16s (boys and girls) and under 18s (boys) divisions.

Orange District Basketball Association representative coordinator Mel Klose said the opportunity to host the WJL finals is about more than just winning.

“This is the fifth time we’ve been able to host finals,” she said.

“It’s a great way to promote basketball in Orange, sometimes it is the forgotten sport a bit in Winter with netball, and football and everything else. We fund raise as well, and it’s just good for the sport and the association.”

After finishing second in 2013’s finals series, Klose said she is expecting the Eagles’ under 18s boys’ unit to be a title contender.

“All the Orange teams are very strong, and should well,” she said.

“The 18s boys are a huge chance, and we expect to make the grand final at least.”

The WJL semi-finals and preliminary-finals will be played on Saturday, before the grand finals on Sunday. 

Games will start at 8am.
