Played in Dubbo, Feds stormed out of the gates to lead the hosts 1-0 early in the contest, but it was the Blue Jays’ determination and the sublime finishing skills of Courtney Hogan that propelled Dubbo to the all-important four points.
The Dubbo victory now puts an eight-point buffer between themselves and Feds (ninth) on the ladder as the race to secure a spot in this year’s top five intensifies.
Confederates captain Sam Stevenson admits there’s no easy games in the 2014 women’s PLH premiership.
“Definitely ... but if we play the way we played on Saturday for the rest of the season, we’ll be competitive with every team in the competition,” she said.
Playing high intensity hockey in an attempt to move up the women’s PLH ladder, Feds’ striker Georgia Parr opened the scoring for the visitors mid-way through the first half.
But Hogan soon entered the contest and when the Dubbo gun put her stamp on the game, the Blue Jays soared to score the game’s next two goals either side of the half and break to come away with their third victory in seven games.
No doubt the one that got away for Feds, Stevenson was opting to draw on the positives from the contest.
“We played really well,” she said.
“The second half we came out strong and we really maintained our intensity for the full 70 minutes. I think we showed we’re capable of playing at that intensity for the full game.”
In other women’s PLH results, Kinross-CYMS suffered a 6-2 loss to Panthers in Lithgow, Bathurst Souths and Parkes United fought out a thrilling 3-all draw and St Pat’s had their 3-1 victory over Bathurst City turned into a 5-0 loss after fielding an unregistered player.
