So when Logan realised her 40th birthday was soon approaching, she and her friends decided to do something extraordinary.
On Saturday morning Logan, along with her well-sculpted training partners Leighanne Ward, Alison Payne and Kate Staniforth, are going to embark on a 100-kilometre walk through the stunning wilderness of the Blue Mountains as part of the annual Wild Endurance fundraiser founded by the Wilderness Society.
The four effervescent mothers living in Orange are excited by the mammoth physical challenge they have before them, but nerves and last-minute doubts already seem to be kicking in.
“Rene turning 40 is a big thing and we wanted to celebrate by doing something different,” Ward said.
“We’re basically doing it because it’s for a good cause, plus we’re all crazy enough to say yes.
“Originally, we had a team of six ladies, however Janet Martin and Cooey Tancred had to pull out due to injury and bad timing.”
The team, competing under the name Alphanistas, have raised a whopping $2000 and the fundraiser to date has rallied a total of $230,000 to go towards protecting, promoting and restoring the natural environment across Australia.
In preparation for the event the ladies, who not only have 11 children between them but also have work commitments, have been doing as much physical activity as possible both in the gym and pounding the unforgiving pavement across Orange.
Alphanistas captain Alison Payne anticipates her team to complete the hike in around 24 hours.
