THE woman who allegedly fell through the roof of Orange City Centre in a bid to escape after shoplifting had so many previous offences she had been ordered by the court not to enter shops in Orange.

Shaylee Gilby had been before the court for at least 20 shoplifting offences and at least another 15 assault charges, among other offences, and was on bail for a previous alleged crime when she was said to have stolen from Price Attack on Thursday morning.
Part of her bail conditions stipulated she was not to go into any shop within Orange, bar Peter Smith Chemist for her methadone treatment.
She was refused bail in Orange Local Court by the deputy registrar, Peter Tudor, on Thursday afternoon and again by the magistrate, Terry Lucas, yesterday.
The 28-year-old, of Richards Place, allegedly stole nail polish remover and material used for acrylic nails, from Price Attack, and shoved the items in her pocket and down her front.
In her escape attempt she bowled over a 57-year-old woman who “was minding her own business” and was chased by two staff members at the centre.
She tripped as she attempted to run down a ramp into the underground car park and was apprehended by the two staff, police said.
They took her upstairs to centre management and was left alone with one of the staff members who apprehended her.
She allegedly started to punch the woman in the head and escaped through a back door which led into a “void” in the roof.
Police facts said it was lucky no one was injured after she tumbled through the roof, down into Amcal Pharmacy and landed on a display cabinet.
“The chemist was busy at the time with numerous witnesses observing this unique spectacle,” police said.
Gilby is due to appear in court in May.
