Nine years ago a small group of fundraisers and visionaries met with an audacious plan to build a facility to house families whose children are undergoing treatment at the nearby Orange Health Service.
Since the first meeting the chair of Ronald McDonald fundraising committee Joanne Lewis has worked closely with builder Mick Fabar to bring the project to fruition and as it gets closer to the finish date they must be feeling incredibly proud of all their hard work.
Of course it’s not just builders and the fundraisers who should be feeling proud, it’s everyone within the region who has donated even a small amount of money to ensure the successful construction of Orange’s latest state-of-the-art facility.
Along the way RMH’s plans have been modified and thanks to these changes the facility can now house families that have children with mental health issues and autoimmune diseases.
With four rooms and two self-contained units ready to be painted, along with the communal kitchen, dining area, learning and play areas, laundries, computer rooms and a manager’s quarters, the building is finally taking shape.
Unfortunately the $4.5 million project still has a shortfall of almost $1 million which will be needed to finish stage two of the build which includes the construction of 12 rooms and units.
As Mrs Lewis said $2 coins and $5 notes are what’s already helped to build RMH.
Let’s all dig a little deeper and donate what we can to ensure families have access to the magnificent amenities at RMH sooner than later.
