Ms Flakelar competed in the fitness model section of the INBA Canberra and Country Natural Physique Championships on Sunday as one of 11 entrants.
“I had the best time and I got really good feedback on things to work on,” she said.
“I love it - it’s such a different atmosphere.”
The competitors were judged on muscularity, symmetry and conditioning - they performed quarter turns in a bikini, a walk and pose in a crop top, shorts and sneakers, and a “posedown” before the three placegetters were announced.
“There was heaps of cheering and screaming and that helped with the nerves,” Ms Flakelar said.
“I wasn’t fussed on placing, more recognising what I’d done to get to that.”
Ms Flakelar has already set her sights on the next competition in September, saying she will come back “leaner and stronger”.
At 183 centimetres, she said her height was a disadvantage.
“I was the tallest by at least 10 centimetres and it’s harder to get muscles looking plump because they’re so long,” she said.
She said the judges had given her advice on developing her upper body.
“Watch this space, hopefully I’ll smash it,” she said.
She thanked her friends, family and trainer Mel Bradley for their support.
“It’s amazing to see people changing their lifestyle and eating better because I’m doing it myself,” she said.
