THE promise of seeing the spectacular sight of 15 large hot-air balloons glowing in the dark proved too alluring for around 10,000 people who headed to the Canowindra Balloon Glow and night market on Saturday.

Arthur Falconer chairman of the Canowindra Balloon Challenge, which stages the event, said visitor numbers were up by 1500 this year as the event continues to go from strength to strength.
“It was a terrific night, the weather was still and warm and the crowds were huge,” Mr Falconer said.
“The more word spreads, the more people come.”
Mr Falconer said while once people came to see the “pretty” balloons in flight, over time they’ve come to appreciate the skill that goes in to piloting one of them.
“It really gets you sucked in,” Mr Falconer said.
The night market, which included 30 food and 11 craft stalls run by local producers, also proved a hit with visitors.
