THE Orange Sub Branch of the RSL wants to remind the public there is a correct protocol for the wearing of service medals by descendants during the Anzac Day march.

“Not everyone who is a descendant knows the protocol for wearing medals and we encourage people to do the right thing as a mark of respect,” Orange RSL president Lindsay Wright said.
Original medal recipients are entitled to wear their medals on the left, positioned above the heart.
Descendants of someone who has passed away or is unable to march wear the medals on the right hand side.
This year 18 descendants of World War I diggers will lead the march down Summer Street at 10.20am on Friday and in to Robertson Park for the commemorative service.
All those heading up the march have pre-registered with the RSL.
However Mr Wright said he doesn’t want to exclude descendants who didn’t register in time and want to march on Friday.
“They can still march behind the relevant unit banners with medals worn on the right hand side,” he said.
Orange’s Anzac Day services will begin with the Dawn Service at the cenotaph at 5.30am.
The Orange High School band will head the 10.20am march followed by the Anzac Day officials and RSL Colour party, the 1914-1918 banner bearers.
All units taking part in the march are asked to assemble at the Memorial Hall in Anson Street at 10am.
