Just what the doctor ordered: Easter gesture restores family’s faith after robbery

JEN Sargent says a kind gesture by a good Samaritan has restored her faith in humanity.

Just a few weeks ago Mrs Sargent, her husband Brenden and their eight boys, aged one to 15, were devastated when they returned home from Mr Sargent’s surprise birthday party to find they had been robbed.

Their four-bedroom rental property had been robbed of their small electrical items including the home computer with photographs of the children. Jewellery was also stolen.

However on Monday the Sargents had smiles on their faces as they inspected their new home - a five bedroom property with huge living spaces on the outskirts of town, offered by Doctor John Lambert.

“I read their story in the CWD and I thought this was a chance to help these people out,” Dr Lambert said.

“It’s worked both ways as I don’t want to sell the house and was looking for a new tenant.”

“I never thought I would be lucky enough to live in a house as big as this"

Mrs Sargent said she and her husband are amazed by the space the family will now have after moving from north Orange where they were burgled.

“This is three times the space we had before - it’s wonderful,” she said.

“The yard is so big for the boys - five acres - I think they could even get lost.”

Their son Brandan was very excited as he peered into the rooms yesterday.

“I never thought I would be lucky enough to live in a house as big as this,” he said.

Things are looking up too on the job front for Mr Sargent who has just picked up a new job.

“I now have permanent casual work so everything is working out well,” he said.

With another baby on the way the Sargents say they are looking forward to settling in.

“I still can’t believe someone would be kind enough to come forward after seeing our story and offer us this beautiful place to rent,” Mrs Sargent said.
