Father Paul Devitt of St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Orange said he was delighted to see a record turn-out of worshippers at the Orange Botanic Gardens on Friday for the Stations of the Cross.
“We had about 400 people of all denominations, which is the most we’ve had. We even ran out of booklets,” he said.
Father Devitt said big crowds also attended the Saturday night vigil service and yesterday’s masses.
“There were a number of visitors who spoke to me afterwards and it is always nice to catch up with families who come home for Easter or uni kids,” he said.
Reverend Gary Neville of St Barnabas Anglican Church said he was particularly pleased to see new worshippers at the church.
“There were plenty of new faces, which is always lovely to see,” he said.
“All the services at the weekend were so well attended, which is really encouraging.
“One of the other lovely things is it was across a wide age group, including many young families,” he said.
