OPERATION Spruce Up was underway with help from the Bunnings Activities Committee at the Country Women’s Association Hall in Orange on Tuesday.
The hall, located on the Byng Street side of Robertson Park, had its Mothers Room repainted with the help from Bunnings employees who donated their time to the cause.
Secretary of the Orange CWA branch Deborah Marr, who is spear-heading the maintenance project, said the hall really needed a facelift.
“It’s in a good spot, it’s got a good frame and has good parking,” Ms Marr said. “We want people to be able to use the hall for weddings and other functions.”
The Mothers Room, which Bunnings employee and self-professed paint expert Justin Brooks said was last painted in the 1960s, is used during the winter for branch meetings and as a reception room.
“We’re looking for a new name for the room too,” Ms Marr said.
“The name ‘Mothers Room’ dates back to when the CWA was first established and heavily involved in mothers’ and babies’ health.”
But that room is not the only thing on Ms Marr’s list that needs work.
She said the main hall needed some attention too.
“The next thing we want is new curtains,” Ms Marr said. “We want this hall to be an attractive and moderately priced hall for the use of the community.”
This year the Orange branch will celebrate its 90th anniversary on July 24.
